Melissa Could Hammer Jamaica As Major Hurricane

Tropical Storm Melissa is expected to become a hurricane by this weekend.

The National Hurricane Center says the storm will meander over the central Caribbean Sea for several days, causing potentially damaging winds, heavy rainfall, coastal flooding, and landslides.

Melissa is posing a threat to Jamaica, Haiti, Cuba, and the southern Dominican Republic.

Maximum sustained winds are currently 45-miles-per-hour. The NHC says it's possible Melissa could become a major category 4 hurricane with maximum winds of 130 miles per hour.

The storm does not pose a threat to the Gulf Coast.
