Lil Yachty is getting dragged by fans and the family of George Floyd after he mentioned the late Minnesota resident in an unreleased song.

The drama unfolded on Thursday night, August 14, while the Concrete Boys founder was on PlaqueBoyMax's livestream. During their studio session, Yachty gave Max the green light to play one of his unreleased songs, which features a questionable bar that references Floyd's tragic death. The 46-year-old Minneapolis citizen died in 2020 after a police officer, Derek Chauvin, forced Floyd to the ground and pressed his knee down on his neck while trying to arrest him.

"Put my knee up on her neck, I went George Floyd," Yachty raps on the song.

Soon after the video made the rounds on social media, fans and critics alike blasted Yachty for using Floyd's name in his verse. Some people labeled him the "worst rapper of all time" while others claimed Yachty would be sued over the insensitive bars. The lyrics struck a nerve among the likes of former NBA star Stephen Jackson, who said Yachty "been wack" in a scathing rant.

George Floyd's family also weighed in on the lyric. The Breakfast Club's Loren LaRosa said she spoke to Floyd's brother, Terrence Floyd, who deemed the lyrics "inconsiderate" to his family.

"It’s really inconsiderate," Floyd said. "You should think about what you’re writing ..it may make sense to you but think about the impact to others. People are sending the clip to me. I want the line changed. Let my brother rest in peace. It disturbs the family’s peace. There has to be a better message behind any mention of George Floyd's name. So his legacy can live on beyond what Chauvin did to him."

In addition, Charlamagne Tha God gave Lil Yachty "Donkey of the Day" for using George Floyd's name in vain. See what he had to say below.
