Will Smith is opening up about the plans for his grand comeback album.

On Monday, February 17, Rick Rubin, Malcolm Gladwell, Bruce Headlam, and Justin Richmond released the latest episode of their Broken Record podcast featuring Smith. During the discussion, the Philly native revealed his new album Based On A True Story will arrive this year in three "seasons" like a TV show. Smith explained that he decided to release the project in this format because he couldn't fit everything he wrote over the past two years into one album.

"So rather than trying to jam it into one project, I'm doing it like a television show," Smith said.

"I'm releasing it in seasons," he continued. "So I have three seasons. I'm not calling it an album. I'm calling it season one of Based On a True Story. Season one is called 'Rave In the Wasteland' and season two is a Quincy Jones quote. Season two is called 'The Gift of Madness.'"

Will Smith has been slowly rolling out the album since last year. He officially made his comeback to the music scene last year when he debuted his single "You Can Make It" with Fridayy and the Sunday Service Choir at the 2024 BET Awards. He also delivered other tracks like "Work Of Art" with Russ and his son Jaden as well as "TANTRUM" with Joyner Lucas.

The rapper-actor continued to share new music this year with his collaboration with Big Sean, "Beautiful Scars." Smith debuted the record during iHeartRadio Live in Los Angeles last month. In honor of Valentine's Day, he shared his new song "First Love" featuring India Martinez and Marcin.

Look out for the first installment of Will Smith's upcoming album Based On A True Story in March. Listen to the entire episode above.
