A woman in Texas is breaking the glass ceiling with her new promotion.Daisy Garcia is stepping up as the interim head coach at Runge High School, where she will be the first female head football coach in Texas high school football history.
In just her second year coaching football in any capacity, Garcia will lead the Runge YellowJackets. Last year, she joined the school as a coach for running backs and linebackers and she served as head coach for the Runge junior high team. She has also coached basketball, volleyball and softball at the high school level.
Garcia takes over for former head coachStephen Davis, who resigned in May, while the school looks for a new athletic director and head coach. She may just be filling in, but that doesn’t take away from the impressive accomplishment in the competitive world of Texas high school football.
- The history-making coach took to Twitter to express her gratitude for the support she’s received. “I want to thank everyone for all their encouraging words,” Garciatweets. “Runge YellowJacket Football is where I want to be. I love being on that football field and coaching my boys!”
