'Bohemian Rhapsody' Cast on Filming In Front of Queen Band Members & More

There is no doubt that Queen has made a lasting impact on music. And on November 2nd, Bohemian Rhapsody will hit the big screen. The highly anticipated film is focused on the iconic rock band's journey and unmistakeable music, as well as late lead singer Freddie Mercury, up until their legendary performance at the 1985 Live Aid concert.

This week, Bohemian Rhapsody cast members Rami Malek (Freddie Mercury), Joseph Mazzello (John Deacon), and Gwilym Lee (Brian May) were in Boston to talk about the movie during an iHeartRadio Facebook live interview. The guys talked about what it was like getting ready and in costume/makeup everyday, how a younger generation of fans will relate to the movie, what it was like to shoot the movie with Queen Band members like Brian May and Roger Taylor on set, and more. Take a look at some of the highlights below.

On how Bohemian Rhapsody will relate to a younger generation of fans:

Gwilym Lee: "It's so universal this music, you hear it everywhere, on the radio, TV, every time you go to a sporting event, you hear either 'We Will Rock You,' 'Another One Bites The Dust,' or 'We Are The Champions,' but I don't think people know that it was Queen that wrote these songs. So, to see the film, to go back to the origins of those songs, and not to take them for granted. Because they're so universal, I think we do sometimes take them for granted, but to really imagine what it must've been like to write a song like 'Bohemian Rhapsody' for the first time, in such a groundbreaking way, is, I think, quite amazing."

On what it was like having Queen's Brian May and Roger Taylor on set:

Rami Malek: "Brian May and Roger Taylor could've easily came out there and just chastised us from the very start, but they [didn't]. They were incredibly supportive and Brian would walk out with a big smile on his face, just look at us and say, 'I can't believe you guys are doing this. I can't believe-'

Joseph Mazzello: "We didn't know it was gonna go that way either. They first showed up on one of our first rehearsals for Live Aid, we were hiding. We were hiding upstairs. We did not wanna go to the rehearsal space, because we knew they were gonna be there and watching us. But when we got there, yeah, Brian had his cell phone out, filming us. Brian May is filming us performing."

Gwilym Lee: "He's clapping his hands to his own songs that we're playing to him."

On how Rami Malek tapped into his inner Freddie Mercury:

Rami Malek: "For me, he's the greatest performer, I think, of all time, and no one can move like him. But the thing about Freddie is, he wasn't choreographed, he would just move in spontaneous moments, and as his adrenaline would build throughout the show, he would do things that normal bodies could never in a million years do, myself included. And I would find that, even sometimes ... When we did the entire Live Aid concert form day one, and there were sometimes we'd be in the middle of a song, like 'Hammer To Fall,' and I wouldn't be able to twist the way he did. And I realized it took the entire concert to build up a certain amount of adrenaline to get my body to do certain things that he would just do on the fly, which just shows you how remarkable that man is."
