Child among 3 victims of I-10 shooting Tuesday night: NOPD

A young child was one of three people hospitalized when someone opened fire on their car Tuesday night (May 30) along Interstate 10 near the Poydras Street exit, New Orleans police said.

The victims' car was heading on I-10 East just after 9 p.m. when shots were fired from inside another vehicle, police said in a preliminary report. All three victims - a man and woman and a child believed to be about 1 - were taken by EMS to an area hospital.

NOPD spokeswoman Dawne Massey said Wednesday the child was not struck by gunfire, but rather "injured by glass." She did not have any updates on the victims' conditions.
