Katy Perry was one of Hillary Clinton's most public supporters during her bid for the White House and now the tables have turned. On Tuesday night (November 29), the former presidential candidate made a surprise appearance at UNICEF's Snowflake Ball to pay tribute to the pop star, who just so happened to be the night's big honoree as the recipient of the Audrey Hepburn Humanitarian Award.
Clinton surprised audiences and the pop star alike when she appeared on stage to present the 32-year-old singer with the award for her charitable efforts with the organization and was met with non-stop cheering and a standing ovation.
"I am so grateful to have this chance to be here to really celebrate UNICEF, which has such a powerful mission," she told the cheering crowd, according to Vanity Fair. "On a personal level, I cannot tell you how delighted I am to be here to help celebrate . . . someone who just has the spirit and the energy and the compassion that Audrey Hepburn brought to her work for UNCIEF, someone who is a global megastar, the person who is the social-media queen, with the most Twitter followers in the world."
Her speech didn't come without a subtle jab at president-elect Donald Trump when she added, "although, she’s getting some competition."
Clinton's second public appearance since losing the recent election was enough to bring Perry to tears. "Does anyone have a tissue?" the pop star asked the crowd. "I've always had a voice—a singing voice, right?—but I’ve never had a voice like I had before, and Hillary has lit that voice inside of me. And that light will never go out. It will continue to get brighter, and brighter, and brighter. Thank you, Hillary. You motivate me and so many millions of people; we appreciate you."
