Louisiana's top insurance regulator says insurance firms aren't in a position to ignore his directive to cover Hurricane Ida evacuation costs.

Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon last Thursday ordered insurance companies to pay for up to two weeks of hotel rooms and meals for Ida evacuees, even if they don't live in mandatory evacuation zones.

Donelon says his office has had around 85 complaints about a dozen companies that aren't paying up, including State Farm and Allstate.
