NHC Says High Chance Of Tropical Depression By The Weekend

The National Hurricane Center believes it's highly likely a tropical depression will form over the weekend in the tropical Atlantic.

Little if any strengthening is expected in the short-term for a broad area of low pressure that was located about 1000 miles south-southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands Thursday morning. However, the wave may find more favorable conditions for development by Saturday.

For now, there is no threat from this system to the Gulf Coast.

Closer to the United States, forecasters continue to keep an eye on an area of disturbed weather now near the northwestern Bahamas. With a small possibility of finding conditions favorable for development over the weekend, the NHC continues to keep a low chance of strengthening before a cold front sweeps up the system.
