You might ask yourself why would The Breakfast Club speak to someone whoโs historical views differ from our peopleโs views and what The Breakfast Club represents? Because they believe that the dialogue must be opened beyond โwho we know or who we talk to every morning.โ
The interview opens up with a POWERFUL statement from DJ Envy:
โWe are fed up, weโre angry hurt and tired. The country is wounded. The phrase โI Cantโ Breathโ is embedded in our minds forever. The inhumane treatment and senseless murder of George Floyd has to be the final straw.โ
This interview seeks to compel our attention and to understand this issue from every side. It looks for ways to bring this country together and stop the senseless killing of our people. Consider this conversation the first step towards achieving this.
Rush steps into the interview by stating that it is his โhonorโ to appear on The Breakfast Club and immediately delves in the George Floyd story which he says has sickened him.
Rush:
It sickens me what happened to him. Legitimate national outrage about a policemanโs criminal brutality has been hijacked and I donโt want to forget about George Floyd. What happened to George Floyd sickened me and I wanted to reach out and tell you all this. I want to make sure you have no doubt and Iโm not the only American who feels this way. The senselessness of it.Weโre only given one life, weโre not given a do overโฆGeorge had his taken away from him.โ
Rush goes on to say that he believes most Americans are as angry, sad and frustrated as he is and he therefore wanted to the share the emotion with The Breakfast Club. He wants to convey the message that most American are just as sickened and outraged as he is by the murder of Mr. Floyd.
In order to create change you have to get uncomfortable. What we are witnessing in our nation right now is not normal, and for change to come we have to be willing to open the door and seek understanding, even if itโs uncomfortable for many of us. This is why this conversation was necessary and of immense value to our community.
