Starting Tomorrow, Amazon Will Share your Internet: How to Turn it Off

I know someone is probably looking at me talk to my dogs all day on my Amazon Ring cameras - but for some odd reason, that doesn't bother me. It's more the sharing my information or PAID INTERNET with strangers that I'm perturbed by.

Starting June 8th, Amazon will start sharing a small percentage of your bandwidth for 'Amazon Sidewalk,' which is an initiative to make everyone's collective Amazon devices run faster, to ensure quality and consistency.

If you're like me and are like "nah," here's how to opt-out of this service. (Remember that it will update automatically, so you'll have to go in manually to your devices settings to turn it off.)

Instructions for Alexa app:

  1. Open the Alexa app.
  2. OpenMoreand selectSettings.
  3. SelectAccount Settings.
  4. SelectAmazon Sidewalk.
  5. Turn Amazon SidewalkOnorOfffor your account.

Instructions for Ring app:

  1. Open the Ring app
  2. Go toControl Center by tapping the three-lined icon in the upper left-hand corner of the screen
  3. SelectSidewalk and use the toggle icon to opt out
  4. It will ask you to confirm you opt-out. Users can opt back in the same way.
