Roddy Ricch claims a man who discovered the rapper's Grammy award in a storage locker allegedly asked for $50,000 to return it.

It all started last Friday, November 29, when YouTuber Prieto Hunter posted a video of himself opening items from an abandoned storage unit he bought for $280. After highlighting several items in the unit, Hunter opened a black Tumi suitcase containing Roddy Ricch's 2019 Grammy award for Best Rap Performance for Nipsey Hussle's "Racks In The Middle" with Mustard. He initially offered to "work something out" with Ricch's team if he wanted it back. That's when things went left.

In a video he posted on Monday, December 2, Hunter said he planned to give Roddy Ricch his back for free after the rapper's team contacted him. He said he didn't ask the artist for money, however, he requested to capture their exchange on video. Hunter claimed the situation turned into a "nightmare" for him and his family after they allegedly received "threats" including messages with photos of his home and social security number.

It didn't take long for Roddy Ricch to respond to Hunter's accusations. He went live on Instagram to share his side of the story and explained how the items in the storage unit got there in the first place. Ricch explained he left a few items in the unit after he recently moved. His assistant was supposed to remove the items and deal with the unit, but it was "mishandled" after he got into an accident. Once he found out about the Grammy, Ricch's team immediately reached out to Hunter and tried to get it back. He originally offered $10,000 for the award back, but Hunter allegedly countered by asking for an Audemars Piguet watch and $50,000.

"First he asked me for an AP," Roddy said with a smile. "Then he asked for $50,000. So it was never about 'Oh we're going to do it on just the strength of trying to get it back to you' and all that type of s**t. It was more so about a n***a trying to get some clout off it or a n***a trying to basically extort me for $50,000."

Roddy said Hunter told him to sleep on it, but there was nothing more to think about. The 26-year-old explained how sentimental the award was not only to him but his family and neighborhood. He also denied being involved with sending any type of negativity Hunter received after he posted the video.

Eventually, they were able to come to an agreement and meet up to get the Grammy back. The artist's assistant met with Hunter at a police station. He only brought the Grammy award and two other people with cameras. Roddy offered to give Hunter money if he brought the other items and was cool about everything, but it didn't go down like that.
