Kendrick Lamar is breaking his silence about the controversy surrounding his verse on Big Sean's "Control."
On the verse, the Compton-born emcee calls out his fellow rappers, and declares himself the "king of New York."
In a recent radio interview, Kendrick says that he had no idea the verse would generate "so much speculation." Apparently, he had no intention of ruffling any feathers and "just wanted to rap."
Kendrick also pointed out that many people misinterpreted his "king of New York" lyric. He says the verse was not about being the best rapper of any city or coast, but about his aspirations to leave a mark on hip-hop as great as the Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac.
