The New Orleans City Council got an update Thursday from the NOPD on what's being done to keep all-terrain vehicles (ATV) off city streets.

It's illegal to operate ATVs, both three and four-wheelers, on city streets.

NOPD Deputy Chief Darryl Albert said the current laws pertaining to ATVs are adequate - police are not asking for new ones - and they pledge they'll aggressively enforce the existing laws.

"The NOPD will seize these illegal vehicles and hold the operators accountable when we're able to do so," Albert said.

The update from representatives of the NOPD's traffic division was requested by Councilman Jared Brosset, in the wake of the recent death of a woman who was injured in an ATV hit-and-run on Claiborne Avenue.
